8 Days Climbing Hiking Trekking Mount Kenya Batian Peak approaches the peaks from the east on the Chogoria route. From the start of 8 Days Climbing Hiking Trekking Mount Kenya Batian Peak, the terrain is forested initially, entering moorland and high alpine desert and eventually onto rocky glaciated landscape. A visit to Point Lenana for acclimatization involves some scrambling on snow and ice. 8 Days Climbing Hiking Trekking Mount Kenya Batian Peak is quite challenging and you can Challenge yourself by climbing Mt Kenya, Africa’s 2nd highest, and Kenya’s highest peak, at 5199 m.

With its rugged glacier-clad summits and forested middle slopes, Mount Kenya is one of the most impressive landscapes in East Africa. You will be offered some of the finest views of Mt. Kenya’s spectacular rocky peaks as you pass through rolling hillsides covered with unique high elevation vegetation. There are over 800 plant species in the national park. In addition, a wide variety of wildlife exists such as elephant, buffalo, eland, bushbuck, waterbuck, zebra, hyena, colobus monkey, white-throated guegnon and, common at higher altitudes, the ubiquitous Mt Kenya rock hyrax. Animals rarely seen include leopard, bongo, giant forest hog and rhino.

8 Days Climbing Hiking Trekking Mount Kenya Batian Peak

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.

Mount Kenya is the second highest peak in Africa and stands somewhat unjustly in the shadow of it’s taller neighbour Kilimanjaro, which lies some 320km away in the south and is visible on a clear day. Kili may see much more traffic – due to the possibility of summitting via several non-technical trekking routes and due to the sometimes dubious honour of being one of the Seven Summits – but Mount Kenya offers a wealth of excellent and diverse climbing possibilities on rock, snow and ice.

8 Days Climbing Hiking Trekking Mount Kenya Batian Peak

With the superb climbing potential on Mt Kenya, its tarns and exotic high altitude vegetation, and wildlife, the circuit around the peaks is one of the most beautiful expeditions in the East African mountains. The peak area is formed from the hard core or plug of the volcano, the crater having long since been eroded away, and rises steeply on all sides some 450 m above the glaciers and scree slopes. There is excellent rock and ice climbing of a high standard to the twin summit peaks of Batian (5199 m) and Nelion (5188 m). The third highest peak is Pt. Lenana (4985 m) which can be reached by any fit walker, suitably equipped.
