Welcome to our 6 Days Serena Masai Mara Migration Safari Package

From July to March, something spectacular happens in East Africa. Millions of zebras, species of antelopes, 1.5 million wildebeests and over 200,000 zebras start a dramatic round-trip that moves them from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, to Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. A journey of almost 2,000 miles that makes mid-July to Mid-August the perfect time book a Kenya Migration Safari package. Surprisingly, no one knows exactly what triggers the great wildebeest migration and there are no discernable signals. It only takes the first 1 or 2 wildebeest to sniff the air and decide the time is right and the migration starts. However, the one thing that is certain, the great wildebeest migration is a long and arduous journey.

Masai Mara Migration Safari

Wildebeest migration is a live annually event that happens from June to October when the wildebeest cross Mara River to Maasai Mara from Serengeti National park and vice versa. Just like in Serengeti, the wildebeest migration in Masai Mara is also an awesome experience. As travelers’ follow the migration, you will be able to see Africa’s big cats hunting. You won’t likely miss to see lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas among the rest.

Witnessing the great wildebeest migration will depend in where tourists are visiting and what time of the year as the animals tend to move in an anticlockwise direction from Serengeti to Masai Mara. In September, the animals cross back to Serengeti national park, if you’re lucky you can still see the last herds crossing in early August. The river crossings are best slotted in July and August. Serengeti national park is relatively big. The best time to witness the great wildebeest’s migration in its southern sector is in February and March. The best time to visit the park’s northern sector is in July and September when these mammals are crossing.

6 Days Serena Masai Mara Migration Safari

Day 1: Nairobi – Fly to Masai Mara National Park

Your migration safari starts with a touch down at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta Airport. Our driver guide will transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Masai Mara. On arrival, you will be met by our guide for transfer to Masai Mara Serena Lodge. During the migration period, the seemingly endless plains, are dotted with wildebeests, zebras among other wildlife. Arrive at Masai Mara Serena Lodge in time for lunch. You will have some time to settle into your tented room before joining your guide on a late evening game drive for an exciting game viewing adventure.

Day 2: Explore Masai Mara and witness the Wildebeest Migration

After breakfast, spend the rest of the day with game drives and activities in Mara. A short lunch follows, and then you will be back out in the safari vehicles to seek out wildlife and explore the rich landscapes of the Conservancy. Wind up your evening with a sundowner before heading back to the lodge for your overnight stay.

Day 3: Explore Masai Mara and witness the Wildebeest Migration

Spend a full day with a picnic lunch exploring the Masai Mara and you’ll soon realize why this reserve is so highly regarded as the best reserve in Africa. Every year, millions of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson’s gazelle pound their way across the savannas in an instinctual survival of the fittest. Another big draw card to the Masai Mara is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. Return for dinner at Leopard Hill.

Day 4: Explore Masai Mara and witness the Wildebeest Migration

Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives from the camp as well as short walking safaris, a night game drive and sundowner out in the bush. Leopard Hill gives you an opportunity to experience the magic of the savannah while enjoying the modern luxury of the camp. Since the camp is situated in a private conservancy, the number of camps and vehicles here are strictly limited giving you by far the best safari experience away from the busier areas of the Masai Mara Park. Return to camp for dinner before falling asleep under the African sky.

  • All Meals Included
  • Accommodation: Masai Mara Serena Lodge

Day 5: Explore Masai Mara and witness the Wildebeest Migration

Take time to enjoy your unparalleled surroundings at Leopard Hill. Treat yourself to a relaxing massage session in the comfort of your tent (at an extra cost book with reception). In the evening watch as the sun sets over the horizon with sundowner drink at the Leopard Hill while you admire the views of the wilderness around. Enjoy dinner prepared by our skilled chefs and you can end the day with a stargazing experience right inside your tent where you have an adjustable motorized roof that gently slides back for a perfect nightly scene.

Day 6: Masai Mara – Fly back to Nairobi

Make the most of your last day engaging in optional safari activities for the better part of the morning. After breakfast have a laid back break as you pack your personal belongings. After a hearty lunch bid your Maasai host goodbye. Your transfer to the airstrip will include a game drive en-route so keep your camera ready as never know when the lion cubs may turn up! Reach the Air Strip in time for your scheduled 4 pm flight, the perfect departure time for international connections or to continue on your African adventure.
