Sitting at the very northern end of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Lake Turkana shimmers in the heart of an otherworldly landscape that would look more at home on the Moon than planet Earth. It’s the world’s largest desert lake, and its waters stretch seemingly never-ending into panoramas of blackened lava and dramatic calderas. Northern Kenya is remote, and undoubtedly difficult to get to – the best way is probably by helicopter, unless you’re feeling very intrepid – but those who do make the journey are rewarded by visions of one of the most intense and untamed areas left in Africa.

5 Days Lake Turkana Fly-in-Safari
Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Turkana
1425hrs Fly from Nairobi to arrive Lodwar near Turkana at 1625hrs. On arrival, met and transfer to the Eliye Springs Camp. You will have sundowner at the beach at extra cost. Overnight at the resort. Dinner included.
Day 2: Exploring Lake Turkana
Breakfast. embark on day’s activities, en route to Eliye Spring Camp have lunch and dinner at the resort. Overnight at the resort. With night at the Lake Turkana Central Highland. You will go with your chef who will prepare your dinner at the highland.
Central Island National Park
You can enjoy 1 night on Central Island National Park. An exciting trip: You leave Eliye Springs Resort after lunch – boats trip to Central Island – offload tents and cooking equipment on camp site. Then ride to the base of the flamingo crater, climb the hill and be surprised! After that you take a boats ride around the Island and discover the rich bird life! Back at the campsite, you prepare yourself your dinner and be ready for an “open air night” in our special mosquito tent. Early next morning, after a cup of tea, you walk to the Crocodile crater and make sure you see the huge crocodiles living inside there. The foot–‐path goes on and you walk as long you feel like around this volcanic area. Back in the campsite, you enjoy your breakfast. Take your time to relax, and when you are ready, everything is loaded back to the boat, and the coxswain brings you back to Eliye Springs Resort.
Day 3: Exploring Lake Turkana
The day is spent relaxing and you may visit the local or hire a boat to visit the surrounding area (at an extra cost). In addition, we may visit Loiyangalani and the community settled there while in the evening visiting one of the Turkana Manyattas [optional] for traditional dances at an extra cost if clients wish. We can even visit the Elmolo tribe which is the smallest tribe in Kenya and have good time with them. Turkana, formerly L. Rudolf is now named after one of the tribes who live on its shores and it is in this area that Richard Leakey uncovered the three-million-year-old fossils of ‘Homo Erect-us.’
This pre historic site is now known as the “Cradle of Mankind”. The Lake is also known as the “Jade Sea” because of its remarkable blue – green color. This is a result of algae particles, which shift with changes of the wind and light, so that the water surface shifts from blue to grey to fabulous jade. The lake is home to the largest population of Nile crocodiles in the world. If the weather permits we take a short sunset boat ride to the surrounding areas. Dinner and overnight in the Eliye Spring camp.
Day 4: Visiting the Turkana Boy
Full day road–‐trip to the site of the famous most complete skeleton of a 1’600’000-year-old homo erectus named „Turkana Boy “. On the way visit of the Fishermen on Ferguson Golf, and you experience Turkana land from the road. Nariokotome is the destination (134 km), also called „Little Spain “after the Spanish Catholic Center, which produces amazing crops in their gardens.
Day 5: Lodwar – Nairobi
Breakfast. just relax and then transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi at 1100hrs to arrive Nairobi at 1340hrs.
